Mike Straza has called Bloomington home since 1983. He and his wife, Erin—his high school sweetheart and a nonprofit donor engagement strategist—have lived in the same house in Ward 5 for nearly three decades. Together, they enjoy walking, running, and biking throughout the community they love.

 

With a degree in economics and business from Illinois State University, Mike has invested over 25 years helping businesses and nonprofits grow. A lifelong entrepreneur, he’s started six businesses, consulted for many more, and now serves as a Fractional CFO/COO, helping organizations build financial and operational strength. His work with the Illinois Innovation Network, the United Way's Workforce180 mentoring program, and numerous local boards has centered on innovation, opportunity, and impact.

 

Mike has also served on the Bloomington Zoning Board of Appeals and represented the community in Washington, D.C. as part of OneVoice with the Economic Development Council. His experience spans economic development, disaster relief with the Red Cross, arts advocacy, and more.

 

On the City Council, Mike brings a business-minded, community-focused approach. He’s passionate about strengthening public services, supporting local businesses, expanding access to affordable housing, and keeping neighborhoods safe—always with an eye toward Building Bloomington Together.
