All Contractors seeking permits to perform work within the City of Bloomington are required to be registered with the City.

Homeowners of single-family residences who are planning to perform their own work and who have lived in their residence for at least one year or are planning to live in the residence for at least one year are not required to be Registered as a Contractor to secure permits for construction.

Common documents you will need to complete this Registration (excluding Plumbing Registration):

• Copy of Liability insurance ($100,000 for property damage, $300,000 for personal injury) with the Certificate holder as: City of Bloomington, 115 E. Washington St. Bloomington, IL 61701.
• HVAC and Electrical Contractors will need a copy of their ICC Contractor Test Certificate, or a copy of the License from the Municipality in which they tested
• HVAC contractors will need a copy of Surety Permit Bond($2,000).
• Sign Contractors will need a copy of Surety Company Permit Bond ($5,000).
• Roofing Contractors ill need a copy of their State Roofing license
• Remittance of Registration fees.
