BLOOMINGTON, IL – Residents who are behind on their water bills have time to catch up with the city of Bloomington’s repayment plan.

The city’s moratorium that was placed on utility shutoffs last year expired July 31, 2021 but due to a spike in COVID numbers it was extended through September 30, 2021. To help residents who might be struggling the city is implementing more flexible repayment plans.

To assist account holders with bringing past due accounts current, the City of Bloomington offers payment installment plans.  The agreement requirements include:

  1. Down Payment:10% of the Total Due balance will be due at the time of agreement approval. This will be based on the Total Due amount on the most recent Utility Bill received.
  2. Monthly Installment:
    • Total Due amounts of $2,000 and under will have the remaining balance be due in 12 monthly installments.
    • Total Due amounts of over $2,000 will have the remaining balance be due in 18 monthly installments.
  3. Number of Plans: There is a maximum allowed of 2 per year.
  4. Failure to make the monthly installment payment, along with the monthly current bill, will result in the agreement being in default, a delinquency fee being applied, and immediate utility service disconnection.

All residents will see notices on their water bills indicating that the shut off and penalties process has resumed. Residents who are 60 days or more behind in payments will receive separate notifications indicating the amount owed and the required payment date to avoid shutoff.

Residents can also call 309-434-2426 to set up a payment plan.
