BLOOMINGTON — An exhibit titled Mostly Monochrome; Paintings by Danell Dvorak consists of paintings by local artist Danell Dvorak and will be on display throughout the first floor of Bloomington Public Library through December 31, 2021.

A painter, ceramicist, and teaching artist, Dvorak considers herself a long-time, and devoted patron of Bloomington Public Library, and she is proud to share that her works reside in the collections of authors Andrei Codrescu and Carol DeChellis Hill.

Dvorak said that she chose mostly monochromatic paintings for this exhibit to reference her love of books. “These paintings were selected to echo the contrast of black text on white pages, the nuances of language and tone, and the imagery conjured by reading,” Dvorak said. She added that her artwork has always been fueled by reading, and it’s her opinion that libraries are as important as museums and galleries.

Scheduled to open in April 2020 at the Jan Brandy Gallery in Bloomington, Dvorak’s most recent exhibit The Big Top | Danell Dvorak, Jan Brandt, and Invited Artists transitioned to an online offering due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That online exhibit can be viewed at janbrandtgallery.com/past

As a Roster Artist for the Illinois Arts Council Agency since 2002, Dvorak has led workshops, artist residencies, and public art projects in rural and urban communities throughout the state. She has also served as the Joe McCauley Gallery Coordinator at Heartland Community College, 2011-2021, and Education Coordinator at the McLean County Arts Center, 1997-2003. She holds degrees in painting from Illinois State University, MS, 1990, and Illinois Wesleyan University, BFA, 1988.
